That is “free of microorganisms” which may cause an infection or may infect patients during the surgery.  In order to provide surgeons with surgical instrumentation that is free of microorganisms the Central Sterile Department conducts a series of steps to ensure the safety of every patient.

Our Organization provides continuing education, coaching and resources to ensure the safety of the patients is first.  Our educational seminars are opened to all interested and all materials are free with the continuing education seminar registration.  Click here to go to our Educational Programs page to see the upcoming seminars.  We aim to be a resource to our members, Hospitals and the public in general seeking information about how are the surgical instruments processed before an operation.  In 2013 Governor Cuomo signed into law the Central Sterile Technician Public Law 2824 which requires technicians to be certified and to maintain continuing education hours on a yearly basis.
